The City of Angels tastes like Pomegranate?

So I think it all started with Absolut New Orleans, this God forsaken mix of Mango and Pepper that caused me to to become an alcohol abuser and pour a perfectly good, no great, bloody mary down the sink. Well, it was perfect except for the Vodka. Having been to The Big Easy before the Dark Times, and hoping to return soon, I as so curious as to who over at Absolut thought this would be a good idea. Mangos and vodka? In heartbeat! Pepper and Vodka, and what ever else you can find EXCEPT Mango and its a Storyville Bloody Mary helping you shake off night before, or morning, or when ever you came to your senses.

Now Absolut, instead of firing the guy that put Mango and Pepper and Vodka together (I must admit, the label was cool) has struck again. Blueberry? Pomogranate? And what the fuck in an Acerola and what is it doing in my Vodka? Seriously, Absolut - you got this absolutely wrong.

This is Hollywood, land of dreams, baby! It’s Sunset Blvd, its KROQ, its that all night waffle house that I can’t remember the name of. It’s PINKS! for God sake. Its The Standard for starters, for the main its The Whiskey and for dessert you have a choice of the Body Shop or Chateau Marmont, or both, but it sure as hell isn’t blueberries.

Think Salty and Dirty. Think Hookers, Marlboro Reds and Marshall Amps that go to 11. Think exceptional Sunsets while driving west on Santa Monica Blvd. Think Brad and Angie, Kat Von D and Nikki Sixx, Paris and well, anyone.

My point is, and I do have a point, it that Absolut Los Angeles should have been left alone. Simple, perfect Vodka. It can be dirty with some olive juice in a chilled glass. It can be made into shots with some lime and triple sec and peach schnapps. It can be splashed with some tonic on the rocks or drank neat and tidy in a bucket.

After all, it’s the City of Dreams. and you should be able to have it any way you want. Adding blueberries sent it packing to the strip mall bars in Fresno and points east.

  1. This sounds like something that would come from LA…..but surely does not belong in Vodka….I know some family members that would be rolling over in their graves right now if they heard about this.

These guys are way off, and sound fairly Green.
ABSOLUT LA - The flavor is awesome — it really does a great job of using the fresh flavors from these berries and making tropical flavored cocktails easy and less sweet.
I suggest you mix it with Lemon Sours, Sprites, Soda, Tonic, Cran, and even Vanilla Ice Cream… it makes great shooters too.
Plus, a good percentage of the sales of this limited edition bottle go to Project Greenway to create Greenways in LA… We all breathe the same air!

Chris, per ABSOLUT New Orleans, if you ever dined out in New Orleans, you may have seen Pepper EVERYWHERE! Mango and Black Pepper is a unique, creative, and great flavor, but not something new.
Chris and Cameron, the two of you sound like you try to pass yourselves off as purists, mostly due to your inability to think on your own. I doubt you even tried ABSOLUT LA.
Chris, Acerola is a tropical fruit simialr to a cherry, and the main flavor is Acai, not Blueberry.
I personally see LA as a culturally dense megalopolis with flavors from all over the Americas, who the rest of the world mostly knows through Hollywood. Sounds like a good match.
And for Christs Sake, its Limited and for Charity.

    Oh - BH….

so for the record - yes, the flavors are awesome (which is one of the better words used to describe culinary accomplishments) and yes, you are correct, we breathe the same air. BUT IT AINT FUCKIN Los Angeles.

Call it Absolut Paradise. Call it Absolut …anything but L.A. And I am certain that you can understand what I am saying, as it sounds like from your initiative to create a vanilla ice cream shooter (um, what?) that you have done time in the food industry. This Vodka is not L.A. At least give me that.

OK. that out of the way. Yes, I have dined in New Orleans. I lived there when I assisted opening one, no - two restaurants. And again, BH - you are correct - Mango and pepper are in abundance. But they shouldn’t be paired with Vodka from my perspective. And of course that is the beauty of it isn’t it. We all have perspective. And this just happens to be my stoop on the internets.

So BH - in the future, here is what I would request from you when you try to brand me as a purist or a tourist or whatever… Tell me how you feel about the review. And then tell me about Project Greenway. It sounds like this is a worthy cause. And it actually is something that I could get behind. And kudos for Absolut for creating a relationship that might be mutually beneficial with the project. But shame on you for trashing my character, and that of Cameron (who I dont even know) just because you got offended, for what ever reason, and tossed the old “you can’t think for yourself” dart. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I would have about a dollar, because to be honest, that is the first time anyone accused me of that.

  4. I thought a website about wine, and in this case Vodka, would be one of the happiest places on the interwebs for people to gather and talk about their favorite elixirs.

Then BH has to show up and pee in the pool. Seriously, why couldn’t you just state your opinion on the review or point out what you thought was factually incorrect instead of trashing people? Oh wait, I see you didn’t leave your real name, a website, or an email address. You’re a troll. I don’t think you even go out to real bars because you’d need friends for that. My guess is that you sit at home drinking by yourself finding other people’s opinions to tear down and make yourself feel better about your life.
